https://vimeo.com/109975845“Mingus Remixed” is a visionary and reverent multi-dimensional exploration of the life of jazz and American music great Charles Mingus seen through the intense prism of the last minutes of his life as he sat in his wheelchair in a Mexican hotel room.
The entire film takes place in the expanded moments of Mingus’ life during the last few breaths of his earthly existence. Charles Mingus’s surprising music, memories and musings are interwoven in the brilliantly conceived spoken word composition that is the backbone of the film that will be Directed by Michael W. Barnard and Produced by Gina Rugolo.
Based on the three-act spoken word/musical show written and performed by acclaimed film and TV actor Barry Shabaka Henley, this homage to Charles Mingus is being adapted to the big screen as a full-length film starring Mr. Henley as Mingus. The show and the film features original music by Muziki Roberson and David Allen Jr. It also includes specially filmed segments of Mingus’ masterpiece “Epitaph” performed by Los Angeles-based Da Kah Hip Hop Orchestra under the direction of “Double G” – Geoff Gallegos.
